Children from 9 years and young people operate this real (small) railroad under the guidance of volunteer adults. Young people actually practice different job profiles here and experience a fantastic range of technical recreational education.
The park railway offers age-appropriate project work for kindergartens and schools. Thus, offering an opportunity to explain theoretically acquired knowledge in a practical way.
Operating since 1956, the children's railwayis reflects the history of railway today. From the steam locomotive built in 1918 to the most modern diesel locomotive built in 2012, with historic and modernized coaches, the development of the railway can be shown and even many technical facilities. Therefore, the conservation and development of technology as well as the necessary preservation and transfer of historical craftsmanship are just as much a part of the philosophy of the small train. Craftsmanship extends general education and makes it easier for young people to enter the world of work and employment.
The passenger, whether small or large, feels the special atmosphere of the children's railway during the half-hour journey through the Wuhlheide. Not only children's eyes light up, when the small trains drive through the Wuhlheide, on special days even pulled by quaint steam locomotives. Shrill whistles on many paths deman a clear way for the park railway! Thereby, they shout "Get in and join us!"
